Lal Balkaran, MBA, FCPA, FCGA, FCMA, CGMA, CIA, generally perceived as an internal audit leader, is an independent internal audit, risk, and governance consultant. He has more than thirty years of internal auditing experience including six with the Big Four. He is the author of seven books on business and several articles on internal auditing and related subjects published across the globe.
Lal has done several quality assessment reviews of internal audit departments for a number of companies in the US, Caribbean, and Canada. He has also presented at several regional, national, and international conferences. Mr. Balkaran has been a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) for over 25 years and was twice elected President of the IIA-Toronto.
An IIA Toronto honorary member, he is a current member of two editorial boards: the Internal Auditor magazine and the EDPACS on-line journal. He is also the recipient of two IIA Canada Awards: the 2010 Arthur J.Child’s Distinguished Service in Internal Auditing award and the 2012 Contribution to the Internal Auditing Profession award.
